State and National Policies for the Settlement of Refugees
Focusing on an explanation of the changes in the national refugee resettlement program (United States Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP)) since late 2016, and how the process works in Minnesota, Elhard's presentation will turn to specifics about arrival numbers and the legal requirements of the resettlement program. Within a 'fact vs. fiction' framework, the presentation hopes to dispell misinformation and help to more fully inform partial understandings about the process.
Diana Elhard graduated from the College of St. Benedict in May 2016. She began working as a refugee resettlement case manager with Catholic Charities of St. Paul and Minneapolis the following October. As of January 2018, Elhard is working in the Office of Minnesota State Senator Scott Dibble, as a legislative assistant. This work brings her closer to policy and gives her hands-on experience working with constituents.
