Seeking God

"Although brief, my stay here has been a wonderful respite from my usually hectic days. Participation in daily prayer and mass, time to read, walk, and pray alone-those are the gifts your community has given me. Thank you."

Saint John's Abbey

Mission

The monks of Saint John's Abbey welcome guests to experience the abiding presence of God with a praying community.

Located in central Minnesota on 2,500 acres of woodlands and lakes, Saint John's Abbey sponsors a university, preparatory school, and publishing house. To further the Abbey's mission, the monks of Saint John's invite people of all faiths to come, enjoy their monastic hospitality, and experience spiritual renewal by staying for a time in their new Guesthouse.

Hospitality

The Rule of Saint Benedict presupposes a Guesthouse and a Guest Refectory to be used by pilgrims and prospective novices. Benedictine monasteries have traditionally given prominence to the monastic guesthouse in architectural planning of the monastery complex and in the daily life of the community. It is hospitality that unites everything that we do and are and we are planning to expand our ministry of hospitality. Building the Abbey Guesthouse is an attempt to meet the growing need for places of quiet reflection and communal prayer.
