Father Cyprian V. Weaver OSB
Born in Witchita, Kansas, Father Cyprian professed first monastic vows in 1966. He became a priest on 27 May 1972. After earning a degree in Anatomy at the University of Minnesota, he also taught the subject to medical students there. Later he devoted himself to pure research, seeking to learn more about the disease of diabetes. For many years he served as head of the Department of Public Health in the Medical College of Fu Jen Catholic University, Taiwan. Fu Jen was founded by Benedictines in 1925 at the request of the Holy See.
In autumn 2007 his fifteen year assignment in Taiwan ended. He is now the Director and Head of the Histopathology Core Laboratory Facility at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Fr. Cyprian continues his research in diabetes, making great progress using mature stem cells to foster pancreatic regeneration.
