Father Jerome Tupa OSB
Father Jerome Tupa, a native of Nanson, North Dakota, professed vows as a Benedictine brother in 1964. Years later he decided to study for the priesthood and he was ordained in 1982. He earned his doctorate at the Sorbonne in Paris in preparation for a career as a professor of French.
While studying in France, however, he became obsessed with art, picked up a brush and began painting the views he could see from the window of his living quarters. Painting has become Father Jerome's second career and he has had major exhibits in Paris, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Chicago. In October 2005 he opened an exhibition of his paintings in New York City. In September 2006 he became chaplain of Saint John's University.
