Father Roger Botz OSB
Father Roger grew up in Freeport, Minnesota (about as close as one can get to Lake Wobegon). He entered the monastery in 1954 and was ordained a priest in 1960. For a time he worked in the University's Alumni Office where he served as chaplain to the alumni. Most of his priestly career has been spent in pastoral work and since 1985 he has been a chaplain at the St. Cloud Hospital. He says working as a hospital chaplain "is enough to make a person believe in God!"
Father Roger is a strong advocate of holistic health: the roles of the mind, body and soul in sustaining human health. His reputation in the abbey is as a man of wisdom and folksy humor.
