Major Superiors Elect Abbot John to Board

COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. The Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM), whose members are leaders of men's religious orders in the United States, elected Abbot John Klassen, OSB, of Saint John's Abbey as one of three new board members at its annual assembly in Philadelphia last week, August 7-10.
Other board member elected are Brother Daniel Casey, FSC, provincial of the Long Island De La Salle Christian Brothers, New England Province, and Brother Donald Gibbs, CSC, provincial superior, Midwest Province of the Holy Cross Brothers.
The Conference elected Sulpician Father Ronald Witherup as president-elect. Father Witherup is the provincial for the U.S. Province of the Society of St. Sulpice and author of several books and articles on biblical and theological themes. As president-elect he will automatically assume the presidency at next year's assembly.
Franciscan Father John L. Doctor was elected vice-president for the conference. Father Doctor is currently secretary/treasurer and head of the Finance Committee for CMSM. He is provincial minister of the Sacred Heart Province of the Order of Friars Minor in St. Louis, MO.
CMSM members are the leaders and advisors of their religious communities. The Conference of Major Superiors of Men supports major superiors in their roles as leaders, promotes collaboration with the bishops' conference and other groups in the church and society, and provides a corporate influence in the church and society.
