Benedictine monks celebrate 60 and 50 years since profession of vows

COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. — The monks of Saint John's Abbey listed below mark a significant milestone of their lives as monks in the summer of 2005. The monastery will celebrate with them at a festive liturgy at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2005, the Solemnity of Saint Benedict, Patriarch of Western Monasticism and Co-Patron of Europe. Abbot John lauded the jubilarians in his homily at mass.

60 Years a Monk * 1943-2003

Father Gunther Robert Rolfson OSB
Father Gunther was born in Brownsdale, Minnesota, on 18 August 1917. He professed monastic vows on 11 July 1943 and was ordained a priest on 30 June 1946.

50 Years Professed: Golden Jubilee * 1953-2003

Father James Reichert OSB
born in Chili, Wisconsin, 29 September 1931, professed 11 July 1953, ordained 6 June 1959

Father Donald LeMay OSB
born in Cloquet, Minnesota, 24 September 1922, professed 11 July 1953, ordained 1 June 1957.

Father Alberic Culhane OSB
born in Huron, South Dakota, 24 October 1930, professed 11 July 1953, ordained 1 June 1957.

Father Gordon Tavis OSB
born in Mandan, ND, 28 August 1925, professed 7 September 1953, ordained 7 June 1958.
