Trinity Benedictine Monastery, Japan, Produces a CD of Sacred Music

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- The monks of Trinity Benedictine Monastery, Fujimi, released a music CD in honor of
the 60th anniversay of the community's founding in Japan. The CD contains nine selections from the Divine Office
including the Benedictus for the Feast of Saint Scholastica, and other canticles
and hymns in Japanese, Latin, and English.
The monks sing the Gregorian chant version of the popular
Catholic anthem, Salve Regina, in Latin, and include an English version of
O Filii et Filiae, the Easter Alleluia hymn, arranged by Richard Proulx, the
respected American Catholic composer. The CD is available for $10.

- Offering of Incense
A musical arrangement by Father William Skudlarek OSB based on the Biblical evening prayr,

- Evening Hymn
Composed by the Trappists of Tobetsu, Hokkaido, based on the Latin verses of Te lucis ante

- Magnificat Canticle with Antiphon
A composition for the Feast of St. Scholastica by Saburo Takada based on Luke 1:46-55.
- Canticle of Simeon with Antiphon
Arranged by Fr. William Skudlarek OSB from the traditional Gregorian chant melody for the
Nunc Dimittis.
- Japanese Marian Hymn
A composition by Saburo Takada modeled on the Latin anthem, Alma Redemptoris Mater, sung always, since 1350, at Compline in Advent.
- Salve Regina (Hail, Holy Queen)
The monks sing this Marian anthem during Ordinary Time at the office of Compline using the traditional and well loved Gregorian

- Easter Hymn (English)
Richard Proulx, a native of Saint Paul, Minnesota, composed the tune for the ancient Paschal text,
O Filii et Filiæ, written by Fra Jean Tisserand OFM (d. 1494).
- Morning Hymn
Translation into Japanese of Come, Thou Almighty King, possibly written by Charles Wesley. The words appeared in George Whitefield's Collection of Hymns for Social Worship, 1757.
- Benedictus Canticle with Antiphon
Composed by Saburo Takada for the Feast of St. Benedict. The text is based on Luke 1:68-79.
