CATHOLIC PRESS ASSOCIATION AWARDS FOR LITURGICAL PRESS

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. -- The following twelve awards were given to publications of Liturgical Press at the annual Catholic Press Association convention in Brooklyn, New York, May 23-25, 2007:

First Place:
Scripture - Hear, O Heavens and Listen, O Earth: An Introduction to the Prophets by Joan E. Cook, S.C. "The scholarship is contemporary, careful and sensitive to text-based understandings of the biblical world."
Liturgy - God's House is Our House: Re-imagining the Environment for Worship by Richard S. Vosko. ". . . an essential resource for every parish that contemplates a building or renovation project."
Design and Production - Psalms: The Saint John's Bible, handwritten and illuminated by Donald Jackson. "One of the seven-volume series that reproduces the magnificent Saint John's Bible."
Best Web Site - www.litpress.org. "The layout of this site is clean and interesting. There is a lot of content with great variety, well arranged with featured items prominently dis- played in the center. Navigation is easy and a search bar is helpful."
Second Place:
Professional Books - Freeing Celibacy by Donald Cozzens. "This book is a true standout. Cozzens clearly presents his subject, ignores no part of it, and produces a truly balanced and compelling argument."
Best Web Site - www.sjbible.org. "The layout is simple but very attractive."
Third Place:
Direct Mail Promotion - Celebrating the Eucharist Promotion Sampler, Marketing Department, Liturgical Press. "A compact, yet beautifully produced marketing package that cries to be opened and tested."
Direct Mail Promotion - Advent/Christmas Brochure 2006, Marketing Department, Liturgical Press. "The quality of the piece is truly notable and the colors of the jackets of the books, records and prints are reproduced beautifully."
Honorable Mention:
Liturgical - Let us Pray: A Guide to the Rubrics of Sunday Mass by Paul Turner.
Design and Production - Pentateuch: The Saint John's Bible, handwritten and illuminated by Donald Jackson.
Gender Issues - Seeking Wholeness: Women Dealing with Abuse of Power in the Catholic Church by Marie Evans Bouclin.
Magazine Award:
Best Essay, Religious Order Magazines - First Place: "The Christ Figure" by David Paul Lange, OSB. The Abbey Banner, Spring 2006. "Using crisp, clean writing, Lange takes the reader right along into his process of giving the Lord a body and ends with an image not soon forgotten by readers."
