Seven Monks Celebrate Anniversaries of Priestly Ordination in 2007

COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. In 2007 seven monks of Saint John's Abbey mark significant anniversaries of their ordination to the priesthood.
The monastery will formally acknowledge their jubilees at Mass during the Abbey's annual retreat, Thursday, June 7, 2007, 7:45 a.m.
60 Years Ordained
Father Paul Benno Marx OSB
Father Paul, born May 8, 1920, in St. Michael, Minnesota, professed vows as a Benedictine monk July 11, 1942.
He was ordained a priest June 15, 1947. Pope John Paul II named him "The Apostle of Life" for his decades of pro-life work.
Father Paul's published works include Faithful for Life (1997), an autobiography, and
The Death Peddlers: War on the Unborn (1971).
On March 24, 2007, Human Life International, founded by Father Paul 35 years ago, awarded him the Clemens Cardinal von
Galen Award for Outstanding Service in Defense of Innocent Human Life.
Father Stanley Forrest Roche OSB Father Stanley was born in Cresco, Iowa, November
18, 1921. He professed first vows as a Benedictine monk July 11, 1942. On June 15, 1947, he was ordained
a priest. He earned a masters degree in English at Notre Dame, and from 1953 until 1959 he was Dean of Saint John's Preparatory School.
Father Stanley retired a colonel in the US Army in 1981 after serving for 22 years as a military chaplain.
50 Years a Priest
Father John Kulas OSB
Father John was born in Albany, Minnesota, on June 1, 1930. He professed first vows on July 11, 1951, and
was ordained a priest on June 1, 1957. He taught German at Saint John's University from 1959 to 2006.
His doctorate focused on the early issues of Der Wanderer, a St. Paul paper for German Catholics.
Father Corwin John Collins OSB
Father Corwin was born in Port Chester, New York, on October 3, 1930. He made first profession of vows as a Benedictine monk on July 11, 1951. Ordained a priest June 1, 1957, he continues to serve as pastor of Seven Dolors Parish in Albany, Minnesota, where he was appointed in 1986.
Father Donald Joseph LeMay OSB
Born in Cloquet, Minnesota, on September 24, 1922, Father Donald professed monastic vows
July 11, 1956. He became a priest June 1, 1957. Even in retirement Father Donald keeps in
touch with the many friends of Saint John's Abbey and University he met during his long service
as Admissions Director, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and Planned Giving Officer.
Father Alberic Richard Culhane OSB
Father Alberic, born in Huron, South Dakota, October 24, 1930, made first profession of
monastic vows July 11, 1953. He was ordained a priest June 1, 1957. An accomplished writer,
Father Alberic serves as the Executive Assistant to the President for University Relations. He had
been Acting President, 1981-1982, and Vice President of Institutional Advancement from 1983 to 1986.
Ordained for 25 Years
Father Jerome Timothy Tupa OSB
Widely respected as an artist, Father Jerome, currently serves as Chaplain of Saint John's University. He was born in Nanson, North Dakota, September 24, 1941. On March 21, 1962, he professed first vows as a Benedictine. He earned a PhD from the University of Paris, Sorbonne, in 1976 and was ordained a priest on August 6, 1982.
