Five Monks Celebrate Anniversaries of Priestly Ordination in 2009

COLLEGEVILLE, MINN. In 2009 five monks of Saint John's Abbey mark significant anniversaries of their ordination to the priesthood. On Wednesday, June 3, 2009, the monastery will formally acknowledge their jubilees at Mass during the Abbey's annual retreat, 11:15 a.m.
50 Years Ordained
Father James Reichert OSB
Born in Chili, Wisconsin, 29 September 1931; ordained 6 June 1959
Father James earned his undergraduate and master of divinity degrees at Saint
John's. He has taught Latin at Saint John's Preparatory School, directed financial aid at
Saint John's University and managed the university bookstore, and taught mathematics and
English at Colegio San Antonio Abad in Humacao, Puerto Rico. He has pastorally served six
Minnesota parishes and has been serving as chaplain at St. Theresa Home in New Hope. Father
James enjoys reading, especially mysteries.
Father Kieran Nolan OSB
Born in New York, New York, 20 August 1933; ordained 19 September 1959
Father Kieran earned his undergraduate and master of divinity degrees from Saint
John's and his doctorate in theology from the University of Munich in Germany. Father Kieran
taught at Saint John's University and its School of Theology/Seminary. He was director of
the permanent diaconate program for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in
Washington, D.C. He has been subprior of Saint John's Abbey, prior of Saint Anselm's Priory
in Tokyo.
Father Jerome Coller OSB
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, 6 February 1929; ordained 6 June 1959
Father Jerome earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in music from the University of
Minnesota, a bachelor's degree in philosophy and divinity degree from Saint John's, and a
doctorate in musical arts from Cornell University. Among his service at Saint John's Father
Jerome has served as organist and liturgical music director. He has also been a missionary,
teacher and pastor. Father Jerome received the Schubert Club (St. Paul) Scholarship, the
Alpha Phi Omega Composition Award and the Otto Stahl Piano Award from Cornell University.
Among his interests are music composition and gardening.
Father Roger Kasprick OSB
Born in Angus, Minnesota, 9 April 1934; ordained 6 June 1959
Father Roger earned his bachelor's degree in philosophy and master of divinity
degree from Saint John's, a master's degree in sacred studies from Catholic University of
America, and a diploma in monastic studies from the Pontifcium Athenaeum San Anselmo in
Rome, Italy.
Among Father Roger's many and varied roles of service are theology, editor, master of
novices, guestmaster at Collegio San Anselmo in Rome, Italy, missionary at Native American
missions, chaplain, and visiting scholar at the Stanford University Center for Biomedical
Ethics.
25 Years Ordained
Father Robert Pierson OSB
Born in Estherville, Iowa, 29 December 1955; ordained 2 June 1984
Father Robert earned his bachelor's degree in social science from Saint John's
University and master of divinity degree from Saint John's University School of
Theology/Seminary. He has served as a pastor, seminary rector, director of field education,
spiritual director, vocations director, chaplain, director of campus ministry, faculty
resident, member of the Saint John's Abbey Schola, cantor and abbey fireman.
