National Catholic Youth Choir Celebrates 20 years of beautiful music

Collegeville, Minnesota, May 1, 2019 - National Catholic Youth Choir (NCYC) celebrates its 20thanniversary this summer with an alumnae reunion and concert at Saint John’s Abbey and University Church.

During its existence, the NCYC has hosted more than 300 choristers from across the nation, meeting each summer on the campus of Saint John’s University and Abbey. To celebrate 20 years of beautiful music, NCYC is inviting all camp and choir alumnae/i back to campus to rehearse with NCYC’s original conductor, Axel Theimer, and perform with the 2019 NCYC choir on Sunday, July 14that the Abbey.

The alumnae/i reunion will kick off the weekend on July 14 with dinner, rehearsal and an evening social at Brother Willie’s Pub. Registration for the weekend event can be found at www.CatholicYouthChoir.org.

NCYC has had a strong tradition of celebrating beautiful music in the lives of young choristers. Camp is filled with daily rehearsal and prayer, friends and fun. Choristers tour and perform free concerts the last four days of camp. Concert schedule can be found below.

2019 Concert Theme: 
“Who is my neighbor?,” Jesus was asked. His answer, which challenges us still, is the story of the Good Samaritan. NCYC sings of Jesus’ challenge in its 20th anniversary Good Samaritan Tour: “Serve Your Neighbor.”

About National Catholic Youth Choir

National Catholic Youth Choir’s auditioned choristers spend nine days (July 6 – 14, 2019) on the campus of Saint John’s Abbey and University rehearsing daily as a unified choir under the direction of St. John’s Boys’ Choir Conductor, André Heywood. Heywood is an instructor in the music department at SJU and the College of Saint Benedict. The choir was founded in 1999 by Fr. Anthony Ruff, OSB, a monk of Saint John's Abbey.
