Death Notice
Father Philip Kaufman OSB, 96, monk, priest, author, ecumenist, and Catholic educator, died peacefully in St. Raphael Hall, the retirement center at Saint John's Abbey, on Tuesday, January 8, 2008.
Father Philip was born September 9, 1911, in Vicksburg, Tennessee. He professed vows as a Benedictine monk, July 11, 1941, and was ordained a priest, May 26, 1945.
The monks received the body of Father Philip at a Vigil Service on Friday, January 11, at 7 p.m. They celebrated the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the Abbey Church. Interment followed in Saint John's Abbey Cemetery.
