Oblate Meetings
Annual Summer Retreat 2008
Doing Justice and Loving Kindness
Directed by Dr. Bernard Evans
The retreat will develop the theme that living the
Christian life necessarily means being engaged in
efforts to transform our world into a place that more
closely reflects the love and mercy, the justice and
peace of God. Those efforts begin in our worship and
extend to every aspect of our lives. As Christians we
are called to live out the social teachings of our
church. As people associated with the Rule of Benedict
we are blessed with a source of unique guidance
and inspiration for the task.
Dr. Bernard Evans is on the faculty at Saint John’s
University where he occupies the Virgil Michel Ecumenical
Chair in Rural Social Ministries. Evans
teaches courses on Christian social ethics, environmental
ethics and ministry in rural communities. As
part of the mission of the Virgil Michel Chair, Dr.
Evans provides support to other schools, churches
and programs that share an interest in social ministry.
Contact the Oblate Office soon for more information about accommodations for the annual retreat that will take place on campus, 11-15 July 2008.
