Individual Retreats

Saint John's offers two kinds of individual retreats throughout the year: private or directed. You choose the dates, the length, and the kind you want.

Private retreats provide solitude for rest, reading, reflection and prayer. If you wish, you may join the monks for prayer. Meals are served in the Abbey Guesthouse dining room.

Directed retreats provide the private retreat experience plus regular one-to-one conversation with a spiritual director. See below under "Individual Spiritual Direction."

We welcome men and women of all faiths. Retreatants are welcome to join the monks for public monastic prayer and to attend or participate in the Eucharist daily.

To reserve a room in the Abbey Guesthouse for an individual retreat, contact the abbey guest master.

Individual Spiritual Direction
The spiritual director facilitates your reflection, in faith, on your life experiences in relation to God, yourself, and others. The goal is for you to hear the voice of God in your everyday life. To arrange for individual spiritual direction contact the Spiritual Life Office. The usual offering for a session of spiritual direction is $45-$60 or what you are able to offer. Visit www.sdiworld.org for more information about individual spiritual direction.
